ZTE’s new ZMAX Pro brings Moto G4 specs for just $99

Update: Check out our hands-on here!

ZTE just announced its newest phone at an event in New York today, the ZMAX Pro. At least on paper, it packs a whole lot of power for just $99 on a pre-paid plan.

The specs we know so far:

  • 1080p 6-inch LCD
  • Snapdragon 617 processor
  • 2 GB RAM
  • 32 GB storage
  • MicroSD slot (up to 128GB)
  • Android Marshmallow
  • USB-C with quick charging
  • 3400 mAh battery
  • 13 MP rear camera, 5MP front camera
  • Fingerprint sensor

ZTE’s clearly trying to out-do some of the competition here on the spec sheet. Quick charging, USB-C, and fingerprint sensors are virtually unheard of at this price point.

Design-wise, the device comes in a rather attractive navy blue, soft-touch back, and a gunmetal frame (it’s not clear if its metal or nice-feeling plastic). My favorite touch is the subtle rose gold accents around the camera lens and side buttons. It’s a classy looking device

The device comes hot on the heels of the $400 Axon 7, once again trying to provide more than competitors can offer at a low price point.

The device is launching on MetroPCS on August for $99 “after instant rebate.” We’ll be going hands on any minute now, so stay tuned for more. Check out our hands-on here.
